Not only is Medicare broke, this summation doesn't take into consideration the amount of use that happens starting DAY 1. As we've found with our own experiments like Massachusetts and Hawaii, people that would normally skip that exam or put it off will immediately take advantage of the "free" healthcare.

The innovation, high quality and advanced treatment techniques which characterize our current system would be degraded, and if the experience of other countries is any guide, rationing of care, especially at the end of life, would become the norm. Our health treatments would be a line item in the budget. Rather than going according to what fits the patients needs, treatments will need to fit the budget.
