There is plenty of ignorance to go around. It doesn't reside on one side of the issue. I do believe that immigrants should attempt to learn English, just as my great grandparents did and were very proud to do. Just as I make an attempt to speak in the language of countries I visit.

As for Spanish, why does that language get a pass from you, being as it is also an imported language?

Immigration should be promoted as a good thing. All who want should be able to come here, less those who come to do us harm or escape from the justice of their homeland. The problem being we should be able to find out which is which.

Generally, we should make it easier to come legally and more difficult to do it illegally.

oops.. I also wanted to say I think it's nice (and eloquent) how you pointed out they way you still found them likable as PEOPLE up until that nasty topic. It's often that way, the people don't actually have horns on the tops of their heads when you talk eye to eye. Seems in a way to actually make it worse, or harder to bridge the gap, and hard to maintain an "Us v. Them" position right back at them. It's confusing and deflating in a way.

For Americans from all over the nation to have invaded Arizona

Okay I admit, it's now an unwieldy sentence, but I think it's nice to remember how "sahib" these people are. Not unlike the Englishmen who went to "deepest darkest" India to wear elaborate layered clothes and suck hot tea all day while being annoyed at the "stupid" natives for not understanding their English culture.
